FTC Association of Fashion and Textiles Courses Knowledge Exchange Symposium
Caryn Simonson (Programme Director Textile Design & Design School Lead for Knowledge Exchange, Chelsea College of Arts, UAL) and Josie Steed (Research & Knowledge Exchange Lead for Fashion & Textile Design, Gray’s School of Art) organised this day which brought together members from the FTC organisations for the day to share their experience. Case studies of Knowledge Exchange projects with industry and enterprise, social engagement and community involvement were explored through talks, Q&A sessions and themed round table discussions. Speakers included Sarah Rhodes (Knowledge Exchange Manager, Innovation and Business, Central Saint Martins, UAL); Janet Coulter (Senior Lecturer & Fashion Design Researcher, Ulster University). Janet has extensive experience of leading industry-academia research and enterprise within the creative industries. She has been principal investigator on a number of KTP programmes and FUSION projects and has been awarded Distinguished Enterprise Fellow, Distinguished Fellow of Educational Excellence in Innovation and has received an Award for outstanding Innovation in a FUSION project. Rebecca Earley presented the key insights from the recently completed Mistra future Fashion Programme Circular Design Speeds ‘Design Researchers in Residence’ project at Filippa K.
